I wanted to try The Secret of Tockley Manor solo rpg module on Mythic Magazine 11. In order to reduce the time it would take for me to play it I decided to not use any RPG system but just Fate Checks to determine my PC's successes or fails, and went all 90s notalgia by having a young Fox Mulder be the lonely PC, so that I didn't have to create a character from scratch.

THREADS: 1 Get to the bottom of the murder

CHARACTERS: 1 Chief Police Francis Herrera 2 Host Ann Sharpe 3 Zane Hoxel 4 Regular citizen

Scene 1: Police Chief Herrera was expecting Mulder. Autopsy states heart was removed with almost surgical precision. The body of the unidentified young woman was found in the Docks, and Herrera takes Mulder there by car.

Scene 2 (Altered): There is a gathering, townspeople protesting because of lack of security in Closport. Mulder finds an expensive men wristwatch by the crime scene, asks Herrera to investigate it, and decides to go check-in at the inn.

Scene 3 (Interrupt): Herrera calls Mulder, local farmer Zane Hoxel tried to steal the body from the morgue. In the interrogation Hoxel says he needed to bring the corpse to the Tockley Manor, but had a seizure. Mulder and Herrera decide to go investigate the manor together.

Scene 4 (Interrupt): Zoane Hoxel dies, Herrera has to take care of the situation and asks Mulder to not go alone to the manor. He agrees, but then goes on his own anyways.

Following Location Crafter rules from here on: LC CLOSPORT: 1 1 1 LC MANOR: 3 3 3

Scene 5 (Master bedroom, House hazard, Evidence): Mulder decides to break in the manor through a window and finds himself in the master bedroom, which has a table full of flasks that smell like different plant based powder mixes. The old wooden floor yields under his weight and Mulder cannot avoid falling down, hurting his right shoulder.

Scene 6 (Hallway, Random, None): Mulder finds himself in a hallway, and almost has a cardiac arrest as some creature runs away from there. It was just a fox.

Scene 7 (Hallway, Opposition, Expected): More hallways, with pictures of a middle-high class family in the walls. Someone is coming, an old man, a relative of the Tockley family named Iago, was alerted by a policeman an outsider might come here. Insists they should leave, but Mulder convinces him that the killer could have been here and he should help him search for clues.

Scene 8 (Keyed scene: Weird event) (Special-Supersize-Basement, The Secret, Evidence)

Mulder and Iago get down to the basement, which is totally otherworldly. It looks like it is much bigger than the whole manor and the walls seem to be moving, vibrating. There is vegetation growing everywhere. One human figure is in the center of the basement, and a few images of people float behind the figure. Iago identifies the figure as Bertran, the oldest son of the Tockleys. Some laboratory instrumentation lay around him in tables. Mulder realizes the images behind him keep changing showing different aged and dressed versions of the same person each (the family he saw in the pictures) as if windows to randomly chosen moments in the lives of those people. Bertran shouts in anger he was about to fulfill THEIR requirement so that THEY would bring his family back from the ever flowing wells of space and time, but because of this interruption they all will be now bestowed a fate worst than death by THEM. Mulder realizes the vegetation in the room is not vegetation at all, but some kind of slithering abominations not of this world. Iago urges Mulder to get out as the basement starts vibrating with flashing colors and unspeakable sounds (later Mulder would wonder whether it was sounds or chants), and Mulder alone barely makes it out of the basement and through a wood and glass window out of the house, as the manor collapses in a blinding but hauntingly silent flash of multicolored light.
